I had the honor of being a speaker at the Mrs. Colorado United States meet and greet brunch. What an amazing group of contestants. Each one is passionate and beautiful. I am so glad I am not a judge!

It was wonderful meeting Deborah who is the current Mrs. Nevada International and will compete in Chicago next summer at the Mrs. International Pageant. It was great sharing tips with her.

The brunch was a surprise baby shower for Shannon Morgan, Mrs. Colorado United States 2011. It is always wonderful getting to seem my dear friend. She has been a wonderful queen this year. The next queen will have big shoes to fill.

16 Cities and Manafest Concert

I had a wonderful time volunteering at the booth for the band 16 Cities at a concert sponsored by Way-FM and Grand Canyon University. I am proud to say that I managed to sell all the CDs they brought with them except for a few of their worship ones. It was a much lighter load going home to Oregon for them.

Mike Couchman (L) is the afternoon DJ and Michelle, The Producer, Evington (R) is the evening DJ. Both are GREAT!!!

Katie Rose from the morning show with Wally!! She is tougher than she looks. If you listen to the show, you know she can stand up for herself. Way to go Katie!!

The famous Wally from the morning show. I want to be like him when I grow up. He is just like the Wemmick, Lucia, in the book "You are Special", by Max Lucado. Nothing sticks to him!

This is the band 16 Cities. They may be big names in the Christian music industry, but they are each humble servants of God. It was a privilege to work with them.

I managed to be the last person in line to get a picture with the band Manafest. You might have guessed by their look, they are a Christian Rock band. I love their music, loud!

Miss Denver

I attended the Miss Denver Pageant to support my client, Lindsay. She represented herself well. I look forward to seeing her compete in her next pageant. She has a real fire inside!

My friend, Lori, was on hand to cheer on Lindsay. It was wonderful seeing her again.

Kristi had the difficult job of judging the pageant. I am glad I didn't have her job! Her daughter, Rylee, was on hand to support all her Miss Colorado sisters.

Miss CO High School and Collegiate 2011

I had a wonderful time attending the Miss Colorado High School and Collegiate Pageant with my sister queen and Miss Colorado International 2009, Emily and her mom, Joy. It was so wonderful to catch up with them both.

Chelsi did an amazing job during her reign. I look forward to seeing what she will do next. I am sure that what ever she chooses, she will do it with all her heart!

I managed to catch up with Jamie after the pageant. She even looks great in a track suit! What a special lady!

It was fun to watch Micayla compete. She did a great job. I am so proud of my friend!

Our Little Miss Pageant

I had the honor of emceeing the Our Little Miss Pageant. I am pictured here with some of the amazing women who helped make this pageant a success, including Judi Sugar who is pictured second from the left.

Between the casual wear and the party wear I had the opportunity to interview two reigning queens who were there as judges. Shannon Morgan, (L) is the reigning Mrs. Colorado United States. She competed for the title of Mrs. United States this past summer where she received the Mrs. Congeniality award. Her other good news upon arriving home from the pageant was that she is expecting her first child. I also interviewed E-Dee Martin (R), who is the reigning Ms Galaxy. She also competed over the summer. It is so wonderful to have another national titleholder from our amazing state!

Miss Colorado USA 2011

I attended the Miss Colorado USA Pageant to support the amazing young women who compete in this system. Congratulations to my client, Marybel Gonzales, the newly crowned Miss Colorado USA!!! I am so proud of you! You are a special young lady with a wonderful story to share.

Of course, every winner has an amazing team behind them. Angelique (L),her sister, was her stylist and her mom (R) was there to support her every step of the way.

The passing of the crown is always bittersweet. Blair has done such an amazing job and I want to congratulate her on becoming Glamour Magazines top 20 women in America!

Congratulations to Victoria Korthuis, who received the honor of 3rd runner up for Miss Teen Colorado USA! Although she is not my client, I have known this young lady for several years. She is a wonderful and gracious competitor.

Ashley Schuett attends the same high school that my children attend. I have watched her grow and mature over the past few years. Her heart is huge!

Micayla Keely is a fun pageant girl! She loves to try new experiences and is pretty much fearless. I wish her the best of luck at her pageant this month! Watch for all these fabulous young ladies in the future!

Colorado Springs Cinderella Pageant

This weekend, I put a lot of miles on my vehicle. It was so very worth it!! I spent Saturday in Colorado Springs supporting my friend, Michelle Wegner and her daughter Emma. It was a special treat because I also met up with my dear friend, Shannon Morgan. Both of the ladies are so genuine and caring. They truly represent the best in Pageantry!

Wine in the Pines 2011

This was our 10th year attending the Wine in the Pines fundraiser for Cerebral Palsy of Colorado. This years event was a James Bond Theme. Here I am in my best "Bond Girl" get up for Friday night. This night is a special night that features several courses served at the Keystone Ranch. This was always my dad's favorite part of the weekend.

Saturday night is the big party held at the Keystone Convention Center. When guests walk in the door, they are greeted by a giant mountain of chocolate and many fabulous desserts. Around the perimeter are various stations set up by local restaurants. This gives everyone a chance to try the best of the tastes of Keystone and Dillon. This night is more formal and includes a silent auction, a live auction and plenty of dancing afterward.

We attend every year as a family. (L-R) Randy Hart, Tracy Hart (sister), Scott (Hubby), myself and Sarah Buffum (mom). We now do this wonderful event in memory of my dad. When he was dying of prostate cancer nine years ago, he lived just long enough to make it to this event one last time. Within two weeks, he was gone. Love you, dad!!!

Way-FM and Secret Keeper Girl

Michelle the Producer at Way-FM Denver asked me to help out with the Secret Keeper Girl Live Tour, so of course I said, "yes!" I volunteered at the Holt International table. This is a special ministry that sponsors children waiting to be adopted. I also helped throw beach balls and launch confetti cannons. Although this event was a lot of fun, it really had a wonderful message of modesty for tween girls. It was great to see so many young girls learn that God has big plans for them and the importance of keeping their private parts secret!

Coed National Workshop

I was so honored to be asked to speak at the Colorado Coed workshop to prepare the state queens for the national pageant coming in November. I shared about interview skills, mental preparedness and that all important circle turn. This is a fabulous bunch of young ladies. Deonne (r) is a wonderful friend and dedicated to the Colorado Coed Pageant!

I am so proud of Kristen. I coached her for the Colorado Coed pageant where she won her state title. She is a busy young lady and still makes time to volunteer and prepare for nationals. She is a true queen!

Juvenile Diabetes Walk 2011

Erin has been a dear friend for years. She learned that she is a Type 1 diabetic in her early 20's. It doesn't always happen to children in spite of it being called Juvenile Diabetes. Erin is the reigning Mrs. Lakewood. What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning!

PBS Children's Fair 2011

I love PBS!!! I grew up watching PBS and so did my children. Of course I had to say "YES" when I was asked to volunteer at this years Kids Fair. I was security for Clifford and the other characters. It's tough to turn kids away and ask them to wait in line when it is for someone as cuddly as Clifford, the big red dog!

Out of the Darkness Walk 2011

I volunteered again at the 2011 Out of the Darkness Walk. This walk is to bring awareness to an often painful subject, suicide. I lost a childhood friend in college to suicide, so I walk and volunteer in memory of David. I worked the memory bracelet table.

Beauties of America Pageant

I had an amazing time competing at Beauties of America. Here are the fabulous 40's at orientation. Ms. Che is the new director and she really went out of her way to make us all feel welcome and special. We even had a special crowning ceremony!

That night was a Red Carpet event. we each were able to walk the red carpet and even were interviewed on camera! This was followed by a gourmet meal. What a special night.

Tamera is the outgoing America's 40's queen. She announced her retirement from pageant competing. We'll see.

Here I am, ready for interview. The interviews were fun. We were able to choose if we would stand or sit. There were two panels that were made up of five judges. I chose to stand to try something different. I really liked it. I left feeling confident that I had connected with the judges.

Immediately after interviews, we were given t-shirts that have the BoA logo on them and were whisked away to a fabulous lunch at La Madeline. After that, we had limos take us to the Wounded Warrior home where we had a full tour. It was so neat to see Boy Scout Popcorn set out in basket for our Veterans to enjoy. From there we headed to Morgan's Playground, a special place for children of all abilities.

Here I am, ready for opening number. Each age group had a different color to choose your own style of dress. I borrowed this from my dear friend, Erin.

My favorite part of any pageant is the evening gown portion. I bought this dress from Ashley Rene's and then I personally customized it. I love my Stefanie Somers earrings that were custom made for my gown!

Waiting back stage for the judges to tabulate their votes. The beauty in white was my roommate, Margaret. She was so much fun and now I have a wonderful new friend.

Congratulations to Carolyn, Beauties of America's 40's. I am so proud to be her first runner up! She is already doing an amazing job with her new title.

We had a breakfast on Sunday morning to hand out awards that hadn't been awarded the night before and to debrief after the pageant. It was so wonderful to finally get a chance to catch up with my friend, Deborah, BoA 50's 2010.

My wonderful, Facebook friend, Christine, drove down to San Antonio to cheer me on. After the pageant, she took me to see the River Walk. You may recognize the stage behind me as the one used in Miss Congeniality. What a special way to end a wonderful pageant weekend!

Queens Farewell

Today was the farewell luncheon held in honor of Tanya Kirby (L), Mrs. Colorado Galaxy and myself. It was such an honor to have so many wonderful ladies come, both young and younger.

The fabulous Erin put this brunch together for us. She is Mrs. Colorado Galaxy 2009. I had a wonderful year with her making appearances.

International sister queen, Jamie, was there to wish us well. She is so thoughtful. Now that she is married, I wonder if I can get her to compete again.

Michelle Wegner, Mrs. United America, has been a terrific friend and we have made a lot of appearances together. It was so special to have her there along with her daughter, Emma.

Mt. Sherman

Last Sunday, my husband and I climbed Mt. Sherman. It is one of over 50 mountains with it's peak above 14000 feet. These mountains are called 14ers and I am a proud member of the 14er club. I really beleive that the song, "Rocky Mountain High", must have been written at the top of one of the incredible mountains!

This is the view from one side of the mountain looking down on the town of Leadville. It is breathtaking!!

This is one of the meadow with all the mountain flowers in bloom. They bloomed late this year because of all the snow we have had. Just beautiful!!! This is why I love climbing 14ers!

Colorado NAM 2011

Congratulating Abi on her win in her division at the Colorado National American Miss Pageant. I have watched her compete in numerous pageants over the past few years. I will say this much about Abi, she is fearless!!! I love that about her!

It was wonderful seeing the Ashleys. You may recognize the Ashley on the left from a previous post where she won first runner up at MAOT. The middle Ashley I met at the Colorado International pageant the year I competed. She did a great job as a NAM queen!

Yes, it looks like the theme for the night was black, white and blue. Here I am congratulating client, Chloe, on her win as Miss Colorado Jr. Teen NAM along with Michelle, who is Mrs. United America.

Congratulations to Chloe on all her trophies and winning her division. It was such a pleasure working with her. She is a hard worker and learns quickly. Good luck at Nationals this November!

Miss Colorado Pageant 2011

I attended the Miss Colorado Pageant with two of my dear International friends. Jamie (L) was Miss Colorado International 2009 the same year I was Mrs. Colorado International. We made appearances and attended nationals together. Brie (R) was the first runner up to Jamie at Colorado International that same year. It was so wonderful catching up with both of these special ladies.

I was finally able to congratulate pageant client, Kristen, on her win at Miss Colorado Coed. She is the newly crowned Miss Colorado Coed. This was only her second appearance. I am so excited for her and the year ahead.

Ashley was first runner up at MAOT. I have known Ashley for a couple of year both through pageantry and through my son who attends the same high school. She is genuine and giving. Her true beauty radiates from the inside out.

Fundraiser for Ashley

I had a wonderful time at the fundraiser for pageant client, Ashley. She is Jr Miss Colorado-World Teen. It was held at a fabulous barbecue place where I ate far too much yummy food. Janet started this pageant to spread the word about buckle your seatbelt after loosing her daughter in a car accident. She is an amazingly strong woman and very organized. This was one of the best run pageants I have ever attended!

Heart Walk

This was my fourth year participating in the American Heart Start walk. I met this young lady three years ago when I volunteered at Mrs. Colorado International. She is a survivor and inspiration!!

I was asked by Michelle Wegner, a survivor and Mrs. United America to be on her team this year. When she had to attend the Texas United America Pageant, I volunteered to be the team captain. Here we are: L-R Myself, Darleen Dudly and Kiara Willaims. What a wonderful morning and a great cause!

Colorado Cinderella Pageant

On Sunday, I attended the Colorado Cinderella Pageant. I was impressed with the young ladies who were competing. The talent portion was amazing and the fun fashion wear was so much fun. I was thankful I had Emma with me to point out what was going on. She was Cinderella Tot 2010.

It is always wonderful meeting up with the United America ladies. Michelle, Mrs. United America (L) is Emma mom. She is such a lovely lady. Teresa, Miss United America (R) is always upbeat! It was a wonderful afternoon. Congratulations to the winners!

NAMI Walk

I was invited to emcee the NAMI Colorado Walk. It was great to see so many people come out to Stapleton to support this cause. We had about 750 people attend.

My dear friend, Erin Feltes, opened the ceremony with her rendition of the National Anthem. I was so glad she could honor us with her beautiful voice.

A bagpipe band lead the way for the walk after the opening ceremonies. I always love the sound of bagpipes. What a great way to kick us off.

I was the captain for the "Taking The Ugly Out Of Mental Illness" team. Joining me are (L-R) Shannon Morgan, Mrs. Colorado United States, Laurie Pierce, Colorado Dream Girls Queen of Queens and Lizzy Maddox, Colorado Dream Girls Supreme Beauty. Thanks ladies for your support!

Arapahoe/Douglas Mental Health Network Luncheon

I was invited to be a guest of Arapahoe/Douglas NAMI at the Arapahoe Douglas Mental Health Network luncheon. I was invited because of my volunteer work with NAMI. It was a great luncheon with so many who came together to support this wonderful cause.

After the luncheon, I had an opportunity to meet the featured speaker, Pete Early, and to share my story. We are pictured holding his book, Crazy. He spoke of the true insanity of todays mental health care. Check out his blog to see the story he wrote that included my own story.

Kites for Life

I sponsored a NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Health) booth recently at the Kites for Life festival sponsored by the Douglas County Second Wind Fund. The mission of Second Wind Fund, Inc. is to decrease the incidence of teen suicide nationally by removing financial and social barriers to treatment for at-risk youth and to create a network of local affiliates to provide such services in their own communities. It was a beautiful day with a nice breeze for flying Kites. It was wonderful to connect with so many people in my community who were there to bring awareness to suicide and prevention.

Miss Crown Jewel

Recently I was speaking with some friends online about wishing there was a way to enter a pageant to get feedback before I compete at Beauties of America this summer. One of my friends, Joy, suggested that I audit a local pageant. After much debate, I decided that it would be a good idea. I would be able to practice my stage work and get feedback on my wardrobe, hair, makeup, etc. So I entered the Miss Crown Jewel Pageant run by Valerie Sweely. It was a fun, one day pageant that had only two areas of competition: Evening wear and fun fashion.

Much to my surprise, three out of the five judges for the day were dear friends. Michelle Wegner, Mrs. United America was one of them. I think I was more nervous because I wanted to do well and impress my friends. I probably tried too hard. They were so gracious and gave me a ton of feedback.

Of course, it was so much fun to watch two of my clients compete. Congratulations to my clients, Tiegan and Hawley for their new titles!!!

This pageant was the morning after Ashley was crowned Jr. Miss Colorado-World. She was still glowing from the night before. I wonder if she ever took the crown off?

It was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who would like a little practice and feedback before their next big pageant.

Miss Teen Colorado-World

I recently attended the Miss Teen Colorado-World pageant hosted by the pageant director Christina Sacha. I met up with friend and Mrs. United America, Michelle Wegner. It was a first class pageant, but that was no surprise. Christina is a first class lady.

Two of my best friends in pageantry and in life were there, (L) Rita Case and (R) Erin Feltes. Both of these women have been such a positive influence in my life.

It was an honor to meet Miss Colorado USA 2010, Jessica Hartman. She was on the judges panel. I did not envy her! There were so many fabulous young ladies that night.

It was also an honor to meet Pageant Legend Gaspar Cruz! He is the Director for Miss Teen World. He is such a kind and generous man.

It was wonderful catching up with Micayla Keely, Miss Teen Colorado-World 2009. We made several appearances together. She always had a great attitude and so much energy!

Heidi Hume is such a gracious young woman. I have to tell a story on her. The night of the pageant, one of the contestant's gowns tore and was not wearable. Heidi quickly offered one of her gowns and saved the evening. That young lady went on to win the title. Now can you see why I love and admire her?

Congratulations to Victoria Korthuis, Miss Teen Colorado-World!! I was so happy and excited for her. She was such a fabulous city title holder for two years before finally taking home the crown. She will represent Colorado well. I look forward to following her year.

The highlight of the evening for me was getting to see my client, Ashley Berry, crowned Jr. Miss Colorado-World. I am so proud of her. She has come a long way in the past year. Good luck this summer Ashley!!!

Emceeing the NAMI Walk Kick Off Event

Greg (R) is the organizer for the Colorado NAMI Walk. He asked me to be the emcee for the kick off event. I was honored to do so. Nichol (L) is who came up with the tag line "Taking the ugly out of mental illness." I look forward to working with both to have a successful walk. Lacy is the director for NAMI Colorado. She works tirelessly for those with mental illness and their families.

Friend and fellow queen, Tanya, Mrs. Colorado Galaxy, helped emcee. She made a lovely "Vanna" as we gave away gifts at the end of evening. Matt is from the Mental Health Network. We support each other's efforts to help those with mental illness.

This gentleman is at most events. He has such a passion for helping others. I look forward to seeing him again.

Wounded to Wow

I recently had the honor of being the guest of Brenda Baecker at a womens meeting. Brenda shared her amazing and inspirational story of how God used pageantry to take her from wounded to wow. Brenda is Mrs. Colorado International 2008. She passed the crown on to me in 2009 and we have been good friends and pageant sisters ever since. Outstanding Scouter 2010

I received the Outstanding Scouter Award again for Troop 794, Arapahoe District. This is the second time I have received this prestigious award for Boy Scouts. The first time I received it I was a Cub Scout leader. This time I received it for my dedication and service to the Boy Scouts. I do give about 6 hours a week to Scouting. As an adult leader and merit badge councilor, my goal is to encourage young men to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Yes, I do take the uniform off at night.

Miss Colorado Preteen Pageant

I recently attended the Miss Preteen Colorado Pageant with two friends, E-Dee (L) and Tanya (R). They are the newly crowned Colorado Galaxy Queens. It was so much fun to sit with them. This was also my first formal appearance as Beauties of America Colorado's 40's.

One of the wonderful things about pageants is all the amazing friendships that are formed. Both of these young ladies attended to cheer on friends. I love these girls!!!

I had the honor of being at Katelyn's crowning as the emcee for the Colorado Coed pageant. I was so inspired by this pageant that I wanted to compete in a system that is divided by age categories, too. This is why I a competing at Beauties of America.

Congratulations to Rylee, the new Miss Colorado Outstanding Sweetheart. I also met her through the Colorado Coed pageant. She is so energetic and always has a smile on her face!

Colorado and Wyoming Galaxy Pageant

I had a wonderful time at the CO/WY Galaxy pageant. I was able to attend with my dear friends Tiffany and Shannon. Shannon brought her step-daughter, Taylor. She is a beautiful young lady. I wonder when we will get her into pageants?

L-R Jessica and Erin are both 2009 Colorado Galaxy queens. As Mrs. Colorado International, I had the honor and fun of making several appearances with both of these fabulous ladies. They are both dear friends now. Jessica was also Mrs. Colorado International 2007.

I met several visiting queens. Yolanda Makel is the reigning Ms. Galaxy. She is so transparent and genuine!

The reigning Miss Wyoming International is Alyssa. I am so excited for her to attend International!

Brandi is Ms Essence. She was the co-host for the evening. What a gracious lady!

Mrs. Colorado Pageant

I recently attended the Mrs. Colorado Pageant with a fabulous group of ladies. We are all friends through pageantry. I would have to say that some of the most amazing women I have met, I met through pageants. These ladies are no exception.

Of course, this lady is no exception. This is Heidi, Miss Teen World Colorado. Her successor will have big shoes to fill.

My friend, Brenda, came all the way from Montrose for the weekend. The Mrs. Colorado Pageant, a preliminary to the Mrs. America pageant, is probably one of the most amazing shows in the world. I was not disappointed at all this year. Another quality and entertaining show was put on by the director, Emily and her crew.

It was wonderful to catch up with my friend and client Jennifer who also happens to be Mrs. Colorado US Beauties.

These ladies are some of my dearest friends. Jessica, far right, performed with her dance troop and put on an amazing performance!

I was there to support my dear friend and client, Erin! Way to go, Erin. She placed top 15 in a field of 47 women! She is definitely one of my heroes!

This was also a reunion for three years of Mrs. Colorado International queens: Brenda 2008, Jessica 2007 and myself 2009. What a fabulous night of friends and pageantry!!

Holiday Pageant Double Header

My two beautiful friends, Shannon and Tiffany, were judges for the Miss Holiday Pageant and the Colorado Coed Preliminary. They had the difficult task of choosing the winners from a beautiful group of girls.

Miss United America, Teresa, was the gracious emcee for the pageant. She really did a good job. She even experienced the daunting task of not having a contestants paperwork, so she created her own narrative for this young woman's evening wear. She actually did a really good job!

Some of the lovely Colorado Coed Queens were on hand to help out. They did a wonderful job of organizing the contestants and helping them on and off the stage.

Deonn is the energetic Director for the Colorado Coed Pageant. I love this lady. She has such a big heart and a real passion for the Coed program. I am honored to call her my friend.

A special shout out goes to my client, Ashley. She won her age division for the Coed Preliminary and tied for the Supreme title as well as winning best in Fashion Wear. Congratulations, Ashley!!!

Eagle Banquet

The final event in my son, Stephen's, climb to Eagle Scout culminated in the Denver Area Council's Eagle Banquet. That night there were over 200 Scouts who had reached the rank of Eagle in the Denver area representing more than 400 Scouts who received the award in 2010. What a special year to receive the rank of Eagle Scout. This was also the 100 year of Boy Scouts in America.

These are some of the boys from our troop who were honored that night. My wonderful husband is on the far right. He is an Eagle Scout and the Scout Master of the troop. You are always an Eagle Scout.

We are so proud of Stephen for attaining this prestigious award. He worked hard and that hard work paid off. Way to go, Stephen!!!

New Dress

Go Red For Women

Friday, February 4th, was Go Red for Women sponsored by the American Heart Association. I volunteered to help out at a very special event set up by the local chapter and Park Meadows Mall. I served as the greeter for the event.

We had all sorts of things for the ladies to do that day. You could have your picture taken with the Go Red Dress, have your blood pressure taken or get a free makeover by Lancome. If you wore red that day, you could even get 20% off your purchases at Macy's.

My personal story about both heart and stroke awareness is my grandmother, Maddie. By the age of 84 she was having a difficult time getting around. She could barely take a few steps before getting winded. Further investigation revealed that she has a bad valve and an enlarged aorta. The first time she went in for surgery, they couldn't complete it because of a white film in the area around her heart. So, six months later she went in again. This time the surgery was a total success. Her color came back and her blood pressure returned to normal. That night she died of a stroke. I miss my grandmother so I wear red!

Way FM Winter Wonderslam

It all started on a Saturday afternoon in January at the Way-FM Volunteer appreciation. I was put on a Scavenger hunt team with some other wonderful Way-FM volunteers. We had specific pictures we had to take then get back and be the first team to finish.

Our first picture had to be with a pet, so off we went to Petsmart. This couple and thier bulldogs were happy to have their picture taken with some of our team. We had to take turns being the photographer for some pictures and for others we had to all be in the picture. I was the photographer for this one.

Creativity counted. One of our pictures had to be of us making snow angels. Most of the snow was melted that day, so we found a small snowbank and used our hands. How's that for creativity?

Here is a whole team shot of us reenacting a scene from a Disney movie in a Target store. Can you guess which one? It sure was a "whole new world" to us! These were only some of the pictures we had to take.

Brenna is the Volunteer Coordinator for Way-FM. She did a fabulous job creating a fun event. I had a blast. Because our team was the first to complete all the pictures for the scavenger hunt, we won free tickets to the Winter Wonderslam Concert staring Toby Mac!!!!

Because of the heavy snow that night, we missed the opening act of House of Heroes. I was disappointed since I love so much of their music. Next up was Brandon Heath. He is such an amazing, Godly man. Love his music!

We had a brief intermission to set up for Toby Mac. This was a perfect opportunity to catch up with Brenna and thank her for the tickets.

Paul is one of the morning show producers. It was great getting to meet him.

Mike is the afternoon DJ. We had to get at least one picture with the Way-FM sign!

Not a great picture of Toby Mac and his band, but it was an amazing experience! I have never been to a hard rock/rap worship service. I am sure God was tapping his toes that night. What a great way to celebrate with other believers. Toby even had an alter call. Angels were dancing in heaven that night. Thank you again Brenna and Way-FM for a night I hope to never forget!

Stephen's Eagle Court of Honor

If you have followed my blog at all for any length of time, you will know that I support Boy Scouts of America. This past Sunday, I had the honor to attend one of the most important ceremonies in Scouting, an Eagle Court of Honor. This wasn't just any court of honor, but my own son's Eagle Court. It was a long road full of bumps and setbacks, but he completed the necessary work and was honored for his accomplishments.

The Eagle Oath is not one taken lightly. It calls the young man to live the life of an Eagle Scout. Stephen was joined by all the attending Eagle Scouts to renew their vow to live a life that exemplifies excellence.

Because my husband is the Scout Master, he had the honor of presenting Stephen with his Eagle medal. You can see Stephen's mentor in the back ground. Each boy chooses a mentor, someone who has either been awarded the Eagle rank or had a son achieve the rank of Eagle. These mentors help keep the boy on track toward his goal.

Stephen then thanked his dad for all his help in getting to Eagle.

Stephen added the Mom's eagle pin to my ribbon. I wear three red ribbons on my uniform, one for each boy. The rank pins are attached to signify each rank the boy has achieved. Stephen's is now complete. I noticed that my ribbons are getting heavy. A reminder of how much they each have accomplished.

This picture says it all. I am so proud of Stephen for reaching this level in Scouting. Very few boys ever make this rank. It is something he will be proud of the rest of his life.

After the awards were handed out, Stephen received a much deserved standing ovation from those present. This was a proud moment for him. I hope he remembers it always.

This is a family portrait done just following the ceremony. I am so proud of each of my children and my husband also. They have each accomplished so much and been true lights in this world.

The journey to Eagle starts as early as Cub Scouts. It was an honor to have Rob, Stephen's former Cub Master attend.

I had to share one last picture. This is Stephen's Great Grandmother. What a special treat to have her get to see one of her Great Grandson's Eagle court. Thank you for taking the time to share this special occasion with me and my family.

Miss Colorado High School Pageant

I attended the Miss Colorado High School America pageant with my pageant friend Michelle Wegner. She is an amazing woman with her own story. I admire her so much. Thank you for driving, Michelle!

I love seeing all thebeautiful young women who come out to support each other. Alina is a wonderful young lady who had a bright future in pageants and modeling.

Yazzie is such a go getter. Never being one to let anything get in the way of her dreams, she is an inspiration.

Jessica and Maria are two outstanding young women. Best of luck this year in all your pageants!

I met Sara at the Colorado Coed pageant this past summer. She is a strong and confident young lady!

Miss Kayla is always fun to be around. I was able to sit with her through out the pageant. Her smile can light up a room.

It was wonderful getting to catch up with Eryn, Miss Teen Colorado International 2010. She represented Colorado well at nationals. Good luck with all your future plans for college!

Congratulations to the fabulous Jamie as Miss Colorado Collegiate! It is always so wonderful to see this young lady. She is always encouraging and wearing a huge smile, even with a high fever! Luckily, she was well this time.

Congratulations to Chelsi on being selected as Miss Colorado High School 2011!! You did a wonderful job and deserved this title. Best of luck at Nationals and bring home the crown!!!

Pledge of Allegiance

Our Boy Scout Troop was invited to the Colorado State Capital on Wednesday for the opening of the joint legislature. The boys were asked to say the pledge.

When we arrived, there were bagels, juice and coffee for us. Although the boys had eaten breakfast, they managed to eat a bagel and enjoy some orange juice.

We were allowed a brief time for practice. Of course these boys knew what they were doing, we open every Boy Scout meeting with the pledge.

While we were waiting for the ceremony to start, I couldn't resist a picture with a local 9 News reporter.

Although the picture is a little dark, these are the boys actually saying the pledge. I am so proud of them and honored to have been a part of this event. Way to go!!!

Adopt a Grandparent

During the month of December, I asked businesses and friends to adopt a grandparent. This would give a person living in a local retirement community a gift that they otherwise would not receive. I would like to start by thanking the generous businesses and people who gave to allow me to take ten gifts to the Johnson Center. The businesses that gave are Urban Home, Bellezza Boutique and Denver Spring and Suspension. The individuals who donated include E-Dee Martin, Sarah Buffum, Michelle Medina and Quisha Hall. Thank you all for making this possible.

Each gift bag included two Mary Kay items. Shown here is the Satin Hands. A wonderful hand cream.

I also included Extra Emollient Night Cream. This is a luxurious cream for the face.

I added a pair of gloves to keep fingers toasty in our cold Denver winter.

I put all these items in a shiny bag wrapped in tissue paper. The bags looked so festive when I finished putting them together. I was so excited to deliver these bags knowing it would brighten the day for someone who might otherwise not receive any gifts this holiday season.

Although it was a downright cold day when I delivered the gift bags to the Johnson Center, my heart was warmed by the generosity of others and my small part in warming one of our elders hearts. I plan to do this again next year.

Miss Fall Doll Pageant

Makayla was the emcee for the Miss Fall Doll pageant. She has so much confidence and grace. This is what pageants do for those who compete in them. This is why I am such a huge supporter of pageants, especailly for young women and girls.

I attended with my dear friend and pageant sister, Tiffany. She is a gifted photographer and took my profile picture. She is a special lady!

I am so proud of my client, Ashley. She won her division. It is always so gratifying to help these girls attain their dreams. I am excited to continue working with her as she goes for her next title!

Colorado Coed Party

I was so honored to be asked to attend the "good luck" party for the girls going to Coed Nationals over Thanksgiving break. They were so excited to do a fashion show for us so we could see all their outfits one last time.

Deonne and Lize both have worked hard this year to make the Colorado Coed experience a wonderful one.

What I love about this picture is the love these girls have for each other. They truly care for one another. Good Luck, girls!!!

Miss CO USA

It was wonderful to meet the out going Miss Colorado USA, Jessica Hartman. I congratulated her on a job well done. She was 3rd runner up at Miss USA. Thank you Jessica for representing Colorado with style and grace.

The USA pageants are a wonderful way to catch up with friends. This is Maria who competed at Miss CO Galaxy last year.

I met Jess at the Colorado Coed pageant where I was the emcee. She went on to win her division at the Colorado National American Miss pageant.

Hiedi's latest title includes Miss Colorado Teen World and 1st runner up at Miss America Teen World.

Makayla is an outstanding young woman. She always does everything with tremendous enthusiasm. I had the honor of working with her during my year as Mrs. Colorado International.

Jennifer is Mrs. Colorado US Beauties and also a client of mine. I am excited to see what all she will do this year.

Michelle is Mrs. United America. She had won her national title the week before. This was her first appearance as Mrs. United America.

Teresa has held many titles. Her latest accomplishment is her national title of Miss United America. Way to go Teresa!!

I am so proud of the way these two ladies represented Colorado!

Much of the fun of attending pageants is going together. We had so much fun just hanging out and watching the show.

Tori also competed at the Miss Teen Colorado USA. I also met her during my year as Mrs. Colorado International. I look forward to following her pageant career.

Wine in the Pines

For the past 12 years, my family has attended the Wine in the Pines fundraiser for Cerebral Palsy of Colorado. The event is spread over two nights. The first night is held at the Keystone Ranch where the chef pairs amazing foods with wonderful wines. This years theme was The Godfather in honor of the Francis Ford Coppala wines that were the featured vineyard.

My mom, sister and I continue this traditional event in memory of my father. He loved this event so much that, although dying of prostate cancer, he lived long enough to attend one last time. He passed away 10 days later.

My beautiful mom enjoying Friday night festivities. She is the sponsor for our family to attend this event. Thanks, mom!!

Our table was full of party goers. Wonderful wine, food and people all coming together to support one great cause.

Judy is the organizer of this event. She does an amazing job, year after year. She has become a dear friend of the family.

Saturday night is held at the Keystone convention center. This event draws people from all over to taste wines and eat food sponsored by many local restaurants. My hubby and I are all dressed up for this black tie event.

Mike's daughter, Kelley, is the inspiration for this wonderful event. In spite of having CP, Kelley has gone on to live a productive life giving back to society. What an inspiration she is!!!

I recently judged the Miss Yampa Valley Pageant with my wonderful pageant sister, Jamie Reed. We made the 4 plus hour drive to Craig, CO. We chatted and enjoyed the varied scenery on the way. Saturday morning was the interview portion.

We had the pleasure of working with another judge for the interview and gown competition. There were a separate set of judges for fun wear and tallent. I was so glad I didn't have to judge the whole competition. I was so impressed with these young ladies. Any of them would have represented the Yampa Valley well.

Here we are with all the winners. These young ladies truely stood out in their age divisions. They are already busy making appearances in the Yampa Valley area. Congratulations!!!

Jamie and I had a wonderful time. I hope we get invited back next year. I love judging pageants because I believe pageants have such a positive influence on young women today.

In 1990, the U.S. Congress established the first week of October as Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in recognition of NAMI's efforts to raise mental illness awareness. Since 1990, mental health advocates across the country have joined together during the first full week of October to celebrate.

MIAW has become a NAMI tradition. It presents an opportunity to all NAMI state organizations and affiliates across the country to work together in communities to achieve the NAMI mission through outreach, education and advocacy.The National Day of Prayer for Mental Illness Recovery and Understanding is Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010.

NAMI wich stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grass roots organization with affiliates across this country and in many more countries around the world. We have a wonderful affiliate for Colorado and I am especially thankful for Arapahoe/Douglas NAMI. The Family to Family class has made a world of difference for me and my family. Pageant Sisters

It is difficult to believe that this picture was taken a year ago. I am pictured with my Colorado International Sisters, (L) Jamie Reed, Miss Colorado International, (C)Emily Schlehuber, Miss Teen Colorado International. This appearance was especially touching because it was not only one of the few we actually all made together, but it truly touched us and bonded us.

One of the things I love about the International system is that there are three divisions. Because of that, I was the "big sister" to these two wonderful young women. Since our reign ended, we have continued to share in each others lives. I attended Emily's graduation from High School and Jamie's wedding reception. It has been an amazing experience to be part of such a wonderful family.

Erin Feltes, Mrs. Colorado Galaxy, and I had lunch with Emily to wish her luck as she left for college. Facebook has been a great way to keep up with Emily and see how she is doing on her next adventure in life.

Although Jamie did not have a formal wedding, she did have a wedding reception held in a quaint park in her home town. I made the two hour each way trip just to be with her and celebrate this exciting day.

I am so proud of my two "little sisters". They are each moving on to a new and wonderful adventure in each of their lives. I wish them the best of luck and many blessings. Out of the Darkness Walk

This years Out of the Darkness walk was held at Highlands Ranch High School. I volunteered to man the NAMI booth to help get the word out about the wonderful and FREE services we offer, including our Family to Family course.

Donna volunteered at the last minute to come help me. Thank you so much, Donna.

Jennifer Lew, Mrs. Colorado US Beauties, also came to help with the NAMI booth. She too has seen the devastation that mental illness can have on a family.

I love that my oldest son, Stephen came. He was there with his high school team. Arapahoe had three suicides last year. That is three too many!

This is the Araphoe team that walked at the Out of the Darkness walk. What a wonderful way to show support.

The Highlands Ranch Choir opened the festivities with the National Anthem and Stand by Me sung accapella. They did a beautiful job.

Before the race, balloons were released to symbolize those lost to suicide. It was sad to see so many balloons representing so many lives lost. Their memories live on in those left behind.

There were over 600 people who walked that day. The fundraising goal for the walk was $24,000. That morning, they hit the $53,000 mark. Donations can continue to be made through December at Out of the Darkness .

BSA Adventure Base 100

Boy Scouts of America is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. As a part of that celebration, they are touring the country with their Adventure Base 100. My husband and two youngest children volunteered at this interactive display.

We took the Light Rail downtown to volunteer at this wonderful event that was set up at Taste of Colorado. My kids were so excited. We did get a few strange looks, but most people nodded in appreciation.

They had a ropes course set up as part of the display. My youngest son had so much fun that he went through it twice! There was so much to see and do including pressing a penny, watching a movie about the history of Boy Scouts and touring the mobile museum.

I handed out American flags to everyone as they left. Very patriotic. It also helped to direct people to our display as others inquired where to get their own flags. This was a really fun way to let others know about Boy Scouts and all we have to offer our young people. Did you know that girls can be a part of Boy Scouts starting at the age of 13? Denver Psoriasis Walk

The Denver Psoriasis Walk was held one bright Sunday morning in Wash Park. There was a wonderful turn out. Sarah (L) organized the walk.

Ryan came all the way from New Mexico to attend this event. He has an incredible passion for finding a cure for psoriasis. He has personally experienced the devastation caused by this horrible skin disease.

My son, Josh, ran the 5K with Ryan. They were the first to finish, so they put Josh to work. He is always happiest when he is helping.

Sarah brought Ryan up in front of everyone to announce Ryan's plan to swim 9 major water channels through out the world to bring attention to psoriasis and to find a cure.

I volunteered after the walk to donate blood and participate in a study for a cure. It was fairly painless. I hope it makes a difference.

Colorado Coed Fundraiser

What could be better than pageants and pizza? I attended the Colorado Coed fundraiser at CiCi's Pizza. There I met up with Kayla(R) and Ariel(L), two of the Coed queens. They were so excited to be there.

This is how I get my boys to support pageants, promise them food. We had wonderful food and even my 17 year old left feeling full. That is a difficult task. Thanks Coed girls for such a fun fundraiser.

Ms. Planet Beach

I love going to pageants and cheering on my friends. Erin Feltes, Mrs. Colorado Galaxy, and I went to the Ms. Planet Beach Colorado to cheer on our friend and pageant sister, Jessica Smith. It was so much fun getting to spend time with Erin.

Jessica was on fire that night. Here she is answering the on stage question with Ms. Planet Beach International. I was amazed at how much she knew about Planet Beach and all they had to offer. I know that her penchant for learning about the information has helped her be successful in pageants in the past. She certainly knew her information that night.

I was so proud of Jessica when they announced her the winner. She is an amazing competitor and really shone that night. I am so proud of you, Jess!!!!

It is always fun to run into old pageant friends. I caught up with Tracy Taylor, radio personality and pageant sister. She was one of the judges. I would say she had a difficult job, but I know Jessica stood out in the crowd and that made Tracy's job a little easier. What a wonderful evening.

Colorado Fourteener Patch

Normally I am on my blog bragging about my sons who are all Boy Scouts. If you have kept up with me at all, you know that I am a Scouter, an adult leader in Boy Scouts. I am a real supporter of Scouting and what it does for young people. But, I will take just a moment to brag on me. I hope you don't mind. At our August Court of Honor, I received my Colorado Fourteener Club patch. I climbed Grey's with our troop so that counted as a Scout 14er. I will receive one star for each 14er I climb to put on the patch. I am so proud to have earned this award!

Book Consultation

I am pictured here with author Darci Gudger. It is amazing how small the pageant world actually can be. I received an email from pageant sister, Angela Breidenbach, asking if I could help a friend who was writing a young adult fiction book. This book was going to have a pageant be part of the story line and she needed help learning about pageants in Colorado. So Angela corresponded with both of us and we actually live close to each other.

We met for coffee and to discuss her new book which will actually be the first of three in a series. I was so happy to share about all the wonderful pageant gals I know in the Denver/Metro area. I loved sharing that so many of the strereo types just don't apply, that pageant girls are really nice, usually. I shared how giving of their time and energy they are. Also I shared about how they cheer each other on. I can't wait to read what Darci's take will be on this. When I left our meeting, I felt confident that pageants would be represented well in her book. Keep an eye out for it.

Back to School Pageant

I recently had the honor of emceeing the Back to School pageant. It is a fun, one day pageant. Every contestant receives a crown and banner. The judges certainly had a difficult decision! (L-R) E-Dee, Roni, myself and Amanda. They did a terrific job!

I has the honor of being the emcee when Chelsi was crowned Miss Colorado Jr. Teen. She was on hand to help with the contestants. She never complained and even managed to look beautiful while sitting on the floor and working the music! Thank you for all your help!

Another wonderful helper was Kayla. She is the reigning Miss Colorado Cinderella Teen. She really got a work out by running back and forth at the personal messenger between the director and myself.

I always love messing around with Makayla! She is so much fun. Here we are pretending to fight over the crown. Tee hee!

Amanda has been such a great friend. She helped me learn the ropes the first time I judged a pageant. She also was a terrific queen as Miss Colorado Galaxy 2008. We have a standing lunch date at Jack in the box when we get together for these pageants. I wish her the best of luck on her next title, "mommy".

It is always a pleasure to work with Roni, Mrs. Colorado International 2010! She is so dedicated to her crown and her platform. She took some time out from judging to share with the audience about her year, so far. Keep up the good work!

Susan (R) was crowned the Ultimate Grand Supreme. I was so shocked to here that she was 40 and this was her first pageant ever! She did an amazing job and I am so proud of her. I am encouraging her to continue to compete in pageants. She will make an amazing queen.

I just love these little girls. I have been following their pageant careers for over a year. They are all such good friends. At this pageant, Lili and Ariel were in two different age categories. During the crowning, Ariel did not want to go on stage without her friend, Lili. She had to be reminded that they were not together in this division. It was so precious! They encourage and enjoy each other so much. Isn't that what pageantry is all about?

Of course, no pageant takes place without a dedicated director. Valerie (R) puts on four of these small pageants a year. She works so hard and always puts on a classy show. Thank yo Valerie for allowing me to be a part of your pageants as a judge and emcee.

Pen Pal

I was finally able to meet my royal pen pal, Tina Hayes this past Wednesday. LaQuisha Hall started the royal pen pals after a successful Secret Queen exchange at Christmas time. Tina has been an amazing pen pal. She has been faithful in sending real letters, not just posting on facebook.

It was wonderful to spend time with her over lunch. She shared so much of her story and also about her year as Ms. US Continental. She is such an inspiration. Tina's spirit is so strong and positive. I am blessed to know her and now to call her friend.

True Confessions. Well, I have some confessing to do. I didn't stick to the plan. I ended up making substitutions twice. The afternoon snack called for an apple. When I went to get it, I discovered that my family had eaten them all. OK,that was probably good for them. Instead I went with a wassa cracker and a piece of string cheese. This is a snack from the Zone Diet, which I live on. Then for dinner, I ended up having to go to my in-laws for dinner. It was supposed to be steak, spinach and a half a baked potato. I ended up with a small hamburger, no bun, a small scoop of cubed potatoes, and a salad. I think I did fine, but probably ended up over my 1200 calorie limit.

I was proud that I did make it through the entire 1 1/2 hour work out. That included 20 minutes of HIIT. You may be wondering what that stands for. It is High Intensity Interval Training. It is a headliner in all the fitness news. What it looks like is a minute of low intensity alternated with a minute of high intensity. This is spread out over 10-15 minutes of the 20 minute work out that is done AFTER you complete 45 minutes of aerobic exercise. Needless to say, I was so excited for the 10 minute stretch at the end. It was good to do this in the morning so my energy stayed high the rest of the day. I did crash early and slept through the night. Exercise is a good cure for insomnia. Remember to check back tomorrow for my results.

Inferno Day 3

Well today was hump day. Yes, it was Wednesday, but also that hump day in a 5 day program. My parents used to take us skiing for a week each year. After a few years, we learned to not plan anything on Wednesday because we were usually too burned out. That seemed to be true today also.

I learned the hard way, do not do HIIT at night. I was awake most of the night and was still sweating this morning. I continued with the meal plan and did the EZ55 and Stretch10 again this morning. By the end of the workout I was dripping with sweat. I tried to take a picture, but it didn't turn out. I ended up taking a nap this afternoon just to get caught up.

Now it is evening. I enjoyed a yummy dinner of chicken tacos, black beans and Quinos. I was so excited to eat a baked potato with cheese, sour cream and even bacon (turkey) for lunch. I had pretty much eliminated them from my diet, so that was a special treat. I took a walk with my husband after the thunderstorms moved out. It felt good to just walk out the sore spots in my legs. I feel like my energy has returned and I am looking forward to tomorrow. Oh, I lost another two pounds. I'll be posting my after stats on Saturday morning. Be sure to check back.

Inferno Day 2

Today was day 2 of Inferno. I am writing at 10:30 at night and I am dripping sweat! "Why?" you ask. Well, today was a typical Tuesday for me. Absolutely crazy. Nothing went at planned. I ended up not getting home from working for my mom till 7:30 pm. The good news is that I had planned ahead so I could take my recommended meals and snacks with me. When I arrived home, I procceded to make dinner-pictured above. It is Grilled Teriyaki Salmon with Ginger Rice and Bok Choy. By the way, that is a full size dinner plate and my husband loved it! The food I get to eat is amazing! Then I went on to do the Turbo Fire workouts Fire 45/HIIT 20/Stretch 10 because I have committed to do this program. That was just short of an hour and a half of Turbo! The only change I have to report is that I actually dropped 2 pounds since yesterday. If I loose anymore I'll post tomorrow. Check back again for Day 3!

Inferno Day 1

This week I have decided to do a program called Inferno. It is a 5 day plan to cleanse the body and change daily eating habits to prepare for Turbo Fire. It is a fast-track weight loss program to shift metabolism into "turbo" mode. I will be tracking my progress and thoughts on my blog this week. I invite you to follow along on my journey to see if 5 days can really make a difference.

OK, so I don't look bad. I am 46 and have had four kids, but I know I can do better. I have not been exercising for while. Although my weight hasn't changed, my body sure has. Here are my current stats: Weight 125 lbs, Bust 35 1/2 inches, Waist 27 1/2 inches, Hips 37 inches, Right Thigh 21 1/2 inches, Body Fat Percentage 23.4 %

My thoughts on the first day. I felt hungry all day. That is, until I worked out. I wasn't sure how I was even going to work out if I was so hungry. With in 5 minutes, the endorphins kicked in and I had a ton of energy. I needed to plan more time for my workout. I did the "new to class" version that takes the time to break down the moves. That added an extra half hour to the work out. The food is very yummy! I had an egg sandwich for breakfast and honey dijon chicken for dinner. The food tastes great and is easy to make. My husband is excited to eat "good" food this week.

I invite you to check back every day this week to check on my progress. I won't be posting personal pictures till the end. I want to save the "after" for a surprise. Let's see if I can get "pageant ready" in 5 days.

Hermit Park Boy Scout Camping

Recently I went camping with our local Boy Scout Troop. We went to Hermit Park and camped the whole weekend. This is Cindy, my tent mate, after the weekend. Yep, no shower since Friday and this was Sunday afternoon. It was a great time shared by my whole family, except my daughter who refuses to camp because she can't plug her straightener into a tree.

On Saturday morning, we climbed to the top of Kurger Rock. That is Long's Peak in the background. This massive rock overlooks the entire Estes Park valley. What an amazing view. This was a good hike with an elevation change of over 1000 feet.

My handsome hubby lead the hike. Here he is with a good friend, Lawrence. I love that Scouting provides so many opportunities for men to just "hang out" and relax. In these stressful times, that is so important.

I think my son Josh's face (r) says it all. This is why we support Boy Scouts. Instead of spending the weekend watching TV or playing video games, we spent the weekend outdoors.I don't think even a virtual camping game would get this kind of reaction!

National American Miss Colorado 2010

I recently attended the National American Miss prelims in Colorado. I managed to grab a quick picture with Jamie Bell. She usually disappears after the pageant, so I thought I would grab this one before it started.

While waiting for the pageant to start, I took some time to catch up with Heidi Hume, Miss Teen Colorado World. She was first runner up at their national pageant. She is a very busy lady and enjoying every minute of her reign. Keep up the good work, Heidi!

It was also wonderful to catch up with Ashley. I am so proud of her for pursuing her dreams even when it was a difficult decision. She represented Colorado well.

So, I managed to grab a picture with Jamie after the pageant. Woo Hoo! I am so proud of her. She made top 5 in her division. Not bad, considering she decided at the last minute to enter. That means she is always ready to compete at a moment's notice.

I met Jessica Flippen at Coed when I was emcee. It was wonderful to see her again. She also made top 5!

Kathy Pallero, Mrs. Colorado United States, was a judge for the pageant. She looks wonderful in spite of being exhausted. I am sure it was a long weekend., but her youthful energy carried her through. I wish Kathy the best for her year!

Ashley Shuett passed on her crown at the pageant. She attends the same High School as my son, Stephen. She is a wonderful young lady with so much enthusiasm for life. I look forward to seeing what she does next.

And the winner is.... Jes Rangel! I had a chance to meet this wonderful young lady at Coed. She will represent Colorado well at nationals. Good Luck, Jess!

Miss Colorado and Mrs. Colorado International Send Off

Although it was just the four of us at the send off party, we still had a wonderful time sharing stories and answering questions. Yes, beauty queens do eat real food! We enjoyed our time at the Dillon Dam Brewery. It was a convenient place to meet about in the middle of the state. Really good food, too!

The Climb

On a bright and aerly Saturday morning, my family and a group of Boy Scouts set out to climb Mt. Greys. The goal was originally to climb both Mt. Greys and Mt. Tores. My youngest son, Matt, pictured in front, was having a tough time getting going, so we were quickly left behind. We kept a slow and steady pace.

About 3/4ths of the way up the mountain, we stopped for lunch. This was the amazing view from this point. Shortly after, I met up with my family and the Scouts returning from the summit. My darling husband encouraged me to continue to the top since he knew how much this meant to me and he would take Matt back down. I was to go on by myself.

With my husbands words of encouragement and sheer determination, I put one foot in front of the other and kept my goal before me. I had to take a lot of rests along the way and a lot of people passed me on their way down. Each person or group would encourage me and tell me that I was closer to the top than I thought. Eventually, 5 hours to be exact, I reached the top. All along the way, I kept having Mily's song, the Climb, playing in my head.

At the top of each 14er, there is a tube with paper in it. You are supposed to sign your name and say where you are from. It was such an honor to add my name to the long list.

Here is my name along with many of the others that made it to the top that day. Did everyone who started out that morning make it to the top? Actually, many did not. As people passed me coming down the mountain, I would ask them if they made it to the top. Many said they did not and gave various reasons from not enough oxygen to not being in good enough shape, including one adult from our group.

This is the view to the west from the summit. What is really neat is that the valley leads to the town of Montezuma where my mom owns a house. I have actually hiked to those lakes in the valley.

This is the view from the top to the east. It looks similar to the one above but you can see much farther. Although the view from the top is similar, it isn't quite the same. It was so worth it to make it to the top!

On the way back down, I was greeted by some of the locals. I was amazed at all the wild life, birds and small rodents, that actually live at that altitude. They have adapted to their environment and are thriving there.

Here I am at the end of the climb. I am exhausted and, yes, the sign is holding me up. As I was almost to the bottom of the hill, I came around a bend in the trail to be greeted by my middle son, Joshua, and my husband. I almost burst into tears, much like the moment my name was called as the next Mrs. Colorado International. They offered to carry my gear the rest of the way. Yep, this journey was full of analogy's for pageants, goals and life. I'll let you decide what lessons were learned. Thanks for taking this journey with me.

2010 Miss Colorado American Coed Pageant

This past weekend, I had the honor of emceeing the Colorado Coed pageant. Deonn Wiess is the fabulous director and friend who invited me. Here we are at check in on Friday.

Here are all the fabulous outgoing queens. I have had a wonderful time getting to know these amazing young ladies over the past year. We made several appearances together with Chaplain Rourk.

These beautiful women were the optional judges on Saturday. (L-R) Dianna-Lynne Wells, Michele Wegner and Erin Feltes. They had the difficult task of judging the talent, modeling, acting, speech, photogenic, best sponsor letter and best artist.

I couldn't resist a picture with my dear friend, Erin. Yes we are joined at the hip and now we dress to match!

Saturday night was the evening gown preliminary and the announcement of the winners of some of the optional competitions. These are the lovely "J-Bells". Jamie Bell and Jessica Bell.

I loved getting to know all the contestants. I certainly think that any one of these beautiful young women could wear the crown well. I am so glad I was not a judge!

Sunday was spent in rehearsals for the big finals night. This crew kept me on my toes and looking good on stage. Many times, the backstage people are never seen. I wanted to say "Thank You" to this amazing and talented group! Thank you Candice, Kip and Mark!

Denver Heart Walk 2010

Saturday, June 5th was the Denver Heart Walk. Michelle Wegner, in the pink shirt, organized the Colorado Royalty Team made up of present and past queens. It was especially meaningful to walk with Michelle because she herself wears a pacemaker due to heart disease.

It was wonderful to catch up with Mrs. Colorado International 2010, the amazing Roni Bibb.

This is a shot at the starting line. This is actually the last group to get started. The walk was three miles around the downtown area. Luckily, the weather stayed cool till the end.

This sign says a lot. This is one of the reasons why I became a Turbo Kick instructor and a Beachbody Coach. I want to encourage others to lead a healthy lifestyle.

After the walk, we enjoyed the many booths set up around the park. I ran into Sheila Kemper-Deitrch who is one of the heads of the Denver office.

Tracy Register, Miss Colorado International 2010 was making the first of two appearances that day at the Heart Walk. Way to go Tracy! You are doing an amazing job!

Way-FM/ Single Mom Project

Saturday, June 29th found a group of total strangers working at the home of single mom who had won a home fix up from Way-FM. We were all volunteers who wanted to make a difference in the life of this much deserving woman even though we had never met her.

Her Deck was peeling and needed help. So a group of us attacked her deck while another group pained woodwork inside the house. Later, we removed a snow, damaged shed and my darling husband installed a light and medicine cabinet in her powder room, even though it was not on the to do list.

We rollered the deck.

My son, Joshua, was so excited to actually get to use power tools. We installed all new lattice beneath the deck.

We painted the newly installed lattice to match the newly painted deck. It was a lot of work and there were so many of us working that it went quickly.

The finished deck. Doesn't it look nice? We couldn't replace it with all new lumber, so there are some warped boards, but it sure looks a lot better. There is always such a great feeling of accomplishment for a job well done.

Nami Walk

May 15th was the Colorado NAMI walk. NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness. I have become active with them and recently completed the Family to Family class.

This is the Arapahoe/Douglas team. We were one of the largest fund raising groups. Way to go, gang!

The walk went around Sloan's Lake in Denver. The high clouds kept the morning cool. I had the honor of carrying the team sign.

'Nita is the president of our local Arapahoe/Douglas affiliate. It is always wonderful to get together with her.

Miss Teen Colorado World Pageant

I attended the Miss Teen Colorado World pageant on May 9th. Forgive me if I just share the pictures with you. Sit back and enjoy. This first one is of April Elzinga, the wonderful Director.

Yazzie Gabler-Alonzo and I bought matching ear muffs.

They have crowns on them. Perfect for keeping our royal ears warm!

Makayla Fletcher took 3rd runner up. She was beautiful in her gown. She designed and made it herself!

Victoria Hughes was the mistress of ceremonies. She did a fabulous job. Ashley Hanson did hair and makeup. Beautiful!

Jocelyn Morrow was one of the judges.I am so glad I did not have her job! There were so many beautiful and qualified ladies.

Amanda Ramano was also a judge. I was at her crowning as Miss Colorado Galaxy 2010. It is always wonderful to see a queen using her crown for good.

Alina Perry is a beautiful young lady in her own right. It is good to see pageant gals supporting one another. Although she was not competing that night, she was there to cheer on the others. That is true sportsmanship.

Nathan Osmond, of the famous Osmond family, was the co host with Victoria. His jokes kept us laughing and he wowed us with some of his new songs.

And the winner is...Heidi Hume. This was a dream come true for her. I know she will wear the crown well and make us all proud.

A final farewell to Micayla Keeley. She did an amazing job and did so much with her community. It was on honor to work with her and the Civil Air Patrol's DDR educating young people about the dangers of drug use. Good job, Micayla!

Turbo Kick Instructor Training

I recently attended the Turbo Kick Instructor training with the amazing and energetic Jennifer Driscol, AKA JD. We learned all about what it takes to be and instructor. We started the morning going over the basics. Then we did an entire Turbo Kick class. Check out all the sweat! Turbo Kick will really burn calories!

JD loves bling. Check out all the bling on her shoes and shorts. Yes, she actually studded the entire Nike swoosh!

This was the entire class. It was a good turn out. We were all so excited to learn how to be an instructor. We were all smiles even at the end of the eight hour training! Check out those muscles! Vicki is a Beachbody Coach. Beachbody is the home version of the classes. They sell all sorts of home work out videos, equipment and supplements. It was so fun to get to know Vicki better. We met on facebook and finally met in real life. I know, great face. I am so not cool. Oh, well. I tried.

9 Health Fair

I volunteered to work the NAMI table for our local 9 Health Fair. Although we were put in a long, narrow hall that was out of the way, many people managed to find their way to us. I was able to pass out literature and direct attendees to our website for more information. It was wonderful to help get the word out about this amazing organization!

NAMI Family-to-Family

Recently, I attended the NAMI Family-to-Family class. It is a free, 12 week class offered to family members of those who have a brain disorder or mental illness. I have several family members who suffer from anxiety disorder. I learned so much about this very stigmatized illness. The most wonderful part was meeting so many people who are in the same boat as I am. If you have a family member with mental illness, you are not alone. Contact your local chapter of NAMI to learn more.

I was invited to speak about my year as Mrs. Colorado International 2009. I shared that through pageants, I learned that Mrs. United States 2008, Terrianne Gunter, had NAMI as her platform. That lead me to contact my local chapter and take the class. After my talk, I passed the crown around for anyone to try one. It was a fun filled night to celebrate the conclusion of our class. I look forward to volunteering with NAMI again.

Toms Walk

April 8th was One Day Without Shoes, a global awareness day sponsored by Toms . This amazing shoe company actually donates one pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair purchased. So you really purchase two shoes for the price of one.

The walks and booths were all over the Denver/Metro area. All were calling attention to how a lack of shoes can be dangerous to children.

I found out about this walk and booth being held at the Auroria Campus through Michelle, the producer, Bowers of Way-FM Colorado. She does so much for the community. I always love seeing her friendly face.

Luckily it was a beautiful day to go barefoot. We played games and blew bubbles to draw attention to our table. I used to Hula Hoop as a child. Much like riding a bike, it came right back to me. Maybe I could use this as a talent in my next pageant.

Colorado and Wyoming Galaxy 2010

Last Saturday found Jennifer Nackerude, Mrs. Colorado American Queen 2010, and myself on the long drive to Cheyenne, WY for the Colorado and Wyoming Galaxy 2010 Pageant. We had a great time getting to know each other better on the long drive there and back. She is a gifted young woman with a very long list of accomplishments.

Upon our arrival, we went out to dinner with the ever lovely, Emily Schlehuber, Miss Teen Colorado International 2009. It is always wonderful to get together and catch up on life happenings, even if it has only been a few weeks.

Of course, one of the biggest reasons I went was to support my pageant friend, Erin Feltes, Mrs. Colorado Galaxy 2009. She was so gracious and poised on the stage. What a wonderful end to an amazing year.

Jessica is one of those pageant friends that we have become close for so many reasons. I first met her when I competed at Mrs. Colorado. Then she was a great help as I prepared to go the Mrs. International because she herself was 3rd runner up at Mrs. International as Mrs. Colorado International 2007. I must say, Jessica really rocked the stage on her last night as Miss Colorado Galaxy 2009.

The beautiful Brenda Baecker, Mrs. Colorado International 2008, was competing for the Mrs. Colorado Galaxy 2010 title. She was so graceful on the stage. Congratulations on first runner up!

This lovely young ladie is Maria Henderson. Jennifer was her pageant coach. Maria represented herself and community beautifully. Remember her name, you will see more of her in the future.

Queen Sister Birthdays

One of the wonderful things about Pageants are the wonderful friends you make when you compete. Erin and I competed together in the Mrs. Colorado Pageant then went on to win crowns in separate systems. We have remained close friends. She even invited me to her birthday celebration!

Sometimes you meet new friends within the system you have competed in. Christine is Mrs. Colorado International 2006. We have become friends through the International System and here I am at her birthday party. If you are looking for a way to make some great friends, I highly recommend competing in a pageant. You will meet some of the most amazing women.

Miss Colorado Prelim

I was surprised one Saturday morning with an invitation to a Miss Colorado America prelim from Christine Worembourg. We attended that night where I ran into the ever lovely Yazzie. I love meeting up with other young ladies who are competing in pageants. It is always fun to watch and see what pointers I can pick up. We have developed a real sense of sisterhood in our Colorado Pageant community.

Miss Butterfly

Recently I judged the Miss Butterfly pageant. I love judging pageants because I really do get to see contestants in a new light every time they compete. I have seen some girls be amazing one pageant and fall apart at another. Sometimes it has to do with how they are feeling or what is going on in their lives. Other times they are having a great day or off day, just like the rest of us. It is always wonderful to be able to judge with a friend. Here I am with Jennifer Nackerude, Mrs. Colorado American Queen 2010.

We had to scramble at the last minute to get a replacement judge. My best friend in Scouting and in life came to my rescue, Caroline. Over the last five years, we have lead a rambunctious group of Cub Scouts. I'm not sure which was more difficult, that or judging a pageant. She was a trooper and did a great job.

Yazzi was selected Queen Supreme Miss Butterfly. She is an amazing young lady. Although she is only about 10 years old, she has already won many crowns, spoken in front of entire schools and is an advocate for children with disabilities including her own brother.

Jamie and Makayla are two beautiful Co Ed queens. They helped out at the pageant and Makayla did an excellent job as mistress of ceremonies. These young ladies are just about everywhere and always ready to lend a hand. Of course, nothing makes me feel better than to see their faces light up and get a hug when ever I see them.

Boy Scout Aviation Merrit Badge

On Saturday, March 6th, I joined a group of about 120 Boy Scouts at the United Airlines building for the BSA Aviation Merit Badge. This group was only 1/4th of those who attended. We spent the morning learning the classroom part. After a lunch, was the hands on (fun) part.

We started in the crash simulator and learned what to do in case of a crash landing, this included a cabin mock up with sounds, lights and motion as well as the slide. Then we moved to the flight simulator where we were each able to practice take-off and landing a 747. This is actually what a 747 cockpit looks like. What you can't see are the great graphics that simulate San Francisco. We also made foam plate gliders or FPG-9's and had a tour of the United historical museum.

This gentleman was my Flight Simulator Instructor. He volunteered his Saturday to help Boy Scouts earn their Aviation Merit Badge. What a wonderful and generous gift of his time.

This is one simulator I was glad I didn't have to fly. This is one of the original simulators from when United Arlines started back in the early 1900's. They have amazing memorabilia from the past 75 years!

Although my reign as Mrs. Colorado International 2009 is over, I am continuing to live life to the fullest and keep up with some of the volunteer work that I began. This includes volunteering at Way-FM. Here I am with Michelle Bower.

For much of the three hours that I was volunteering, Bobby and I were the only ones there to answer phones, stuff envelopes and fold t-shirts. His description of this picture was "the committed ones". I'm not sure we just shouldn't be committed. :)

Reflections on Mrs. Colorado International 2009

Here are my reflections on my year. It was difficult to narrow it down to a few pictures since I made 90 appearances, but here are some of my highlights:

Being crowned by my husband and Mrs. Colorado International 2008, the beautiful Brenda Baecker.

I was so proud to win the Spirit of Pageantry award. It really meant a lot to win this award.

My platform was Boy Scouts of America. I am so proud of these guys who crossed over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts this past January. I watched them grow from awkward and rambunctious Tiger Scouts to respectful and mature Boy Scouts.

As part of the International system I made several appearances with the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women campaign. The International pageant has an exclusive platform with Go Red. I was so honored to represent this amazing group.

So many of my appearances were with Chaplain Rourk of the Civil Air Patrol as well as other wonderful queens from all over Colorado. I have become so close with many of these queens. We all adore Chaplain Rourk!

Children's Hospital was one of the only appearances I made with both sister queens, Jamie Patrick, Miss Colorado International and Emily Schlehuber, Miss Teen Colorado International. We spent over three hours going from room to room sharing smiles, stories and signing autograph cards. What a wonderful experience!

Competing at the Mrs. International Pageant was one of the highlights of my year. I met so many amazing women and I am proud to call them all my beautiful sister queens.

I was also honored to meet my mentor, hero, pageant coach and friend, Suzy Bootz, Mrs. International 2006.

Then I had the privilege of staying for the Miss and Miss Teen International Pageant. It was wonderful to spend a whole week with Jamie, Emily and Cindy Harwood, our Director.

Toward the end of my year, I was blessed to take a trip to Maryland and Virginia to attend the Mrs. MD/VA International pageant. I also met one of my dearest Facebook friends in person, the amazing LaQuisha Hall, Mrs. Maryland Galaxy. It was wonderful to reconnect with Adrienne Carver, Mrs. Maryland International.

In October, We held the Colorado International 2010 pageant. My dear friend Arma Shahiti, Mrs. International 2009 was the emcee. I also had the wonderful job of helping to crown my successor and friend, Roni Bibb.

I have been blessed by an amazing year and will forever be your Mrs. Colorado International 20009. I now here are the words of my final walk:

To my God: Thank You for the blessing of being Mrs. Colorado International. This year has been a dream come true for me and has lead me to dream even bigger.

To my husband, Scott: Thank you for supporting me event when you didn’t understand the “why”. I love you as my best friend and partner in life. If the past 25 years are any indication of the next 25 years, I know that no matter what comes along, I will have your love to get us through.
To my children: Rachel, you are my example of an overcomer. Stephen you have shown me how to beat the stereotypes. Joshua, you have been a wonderful escort and photographer. Matt, you are always ready to make me laugh. Thank you all.
To my mom: You have always believed in me. Thank you for allowing me to be different and pursue my dreams, even when you weren’t quite sure where they would lead.
Emily and Jamie: Thank you so much for allowing me to share in your lives. The time we spent in Chicago will be treasured forever. I wish you blessings as you each move on to the next phase of your lives.
Cindy, my director: Thank you for the opportunity and freedom to be the best Mrs. Colorado International I can be. It has meant so much to me that you have trusted me with so much responsibility. I look forward to seeing where Colorado International pageants will go.
To all the former Queens who have supported me: Brenda, Mrs. Colorado International 2008, thank you so much for your support even before I wore the crown. Jessica, Mrs. Colorado International 2007, thank you for laughing and crying with me. Also, thank you for the walking lessons. They really gave me the confidence to walk on stage. Christine, Mrs. Colorado International 2006, thank you for the dresses you loaned me. I felt like a queen in all new clothes.
To the new Queen I say, this crown and banner are merely a platform for you to dive off of. You can stand timidly back from the edge and keep yourself safe and dry, or you can dive off the platform, head first into the water and make a really big splash. I hope you choose to dive.

Ronald McDonald House

My 90th and final appearance as Mrs. Colorado International 2009 was serving lunch at the Ronald McDonald House in Aurora, CO. Joining me were (L-R) Erin Feltes, Mrs. Colorado Galaxy 2009, Roni Bibb, Mrs. Colorado International 2010 and Emily Schlehuber, Miss Teen Colorado International 2009.

It was wonderful getting to spend our last day as queens together. Emily has always brought a smile and enthusiasm to all our appearances. She is continuing her work in Eating Disorders Awareness. As someone who struggles daily, she is a true spokesperson for this terrible disease that effects millions in our country.

Erin will crown a new Mrs. Colorado Galaxy next month. She and I have made many appearances together. I have been blessed by her support over the past year.

Roni has blessed me by sharing her title with me since our reigns overlapped by four months. I know the crown is in good hands. She had so amazing and ambitious goals for her reign. I know she will accomplish them all. I wish Roni the best of luck at nationals this summer!

Although we spent the afternoon serving others lunch and munching ourselves, it was so nice to go out for lunch and let someone else serve us. We went to Noodles and Company. Yum!

Fairview High School 9 Health Fair

I met up with my sister queens from the Teen World and Coed Pageant systems at the Fairview High School 9 Health Fair. I love getting to see these young women and keep up with all they are doing.

We work with Chaplain Rourk of the Civil Air Patrol to educate students about "better things to do than drugs" By High School, most teens know what to do. It is always reassuring to hear them share creative ideas on how to handle stress.

I have been so blessed by knowing Chaplain Rourk. He has been such a part of my year as Mrs. Colorado International. I wish him the best of luck!

Studio A

On Tuesday night I had the opportunity to stop by Adrienne's studio, Studio A. She was teaching a modeling class when we walked in. These young ladies were reciting a positive affirmation poem. Afterwards, I was asked to speak to these incredible teens. These future leaders of America certainly are going to rock our country. Each one of them has a terrific future!

Adrienne Carver, Mrs. Maryland International, 2009 and myself. She was the one contestant I was the most intimidated by since she is a "triple crown" queen. That was silly of me. We have since become close friends and she is one of my biggest cheer leaders. I have learned never to be "star struck" by someone. We are all people and the ones we are most afraid of may one day be our closest friend!

What an honor to get to know these two beautiful queens. I am hoping to get back to Maryland in the near future and work with them again as I work on my next big project. Stay tuned!

Queens Lunch Annapolis, MD

On Tuesday of my trip to VA/MD I had lunch with some amazing Queens. LaQuisha, Mrs. Maryland Galaxy and I were joined by Ginny Meerman, Mrs. Maryland United States and Ashley Heslop. Miss Teen Johnstown International.

Getting to meet Ginny was so wonderful. She shared about her plans for the upcoming year over lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. There is no stopping this woman when she sets her mind on something. Good luck with all your endeavors!

Since we were already at the Annapolis Mall, LaQuisha and I couldn't resist a little shoe shopping. No, this isn't her shoe closet, but I understand it could be. :)

Teen Leadership Summit, MD

I was finally able to meet one of my dear facebook friends, LaQuisha Hall, Mrs. Maryland Galaxy, at a Teen Leadership Summit in Baltimore, MD. We have become so close over the past year or so. She is an amazing young woman with so much to give.

I was able to catch up with my International Sister Queen, Adrienne Carver, Mrs. Maryland International. I had the honor of meeting the beautiful Montressa Williams, Ms. Maryland Galaxy. These women were all speakers encouraging today's teen women to make good choices.

These two young ladies are fine examples of the teens who attended this event. From where I stand, the future looks bright!

Mrs. VA Int Pageant

I attended the Virginia International Pageant with my dear facebook friend, Ashley. We had a wonderful time!

I caught up with Deanna Linz, Mrs. Alabama International 2009. She also participated by singing a song during the pageant.

There were several local Teen title holders on hand to cheer everyone on. Their pageant will be held later this spring.

Maria Beall won first runner up. Way to go!

The beautiful Rebecca Crosen won "most photogenic". It is easy to see why.

The lovely Juliana McKee, Miss Teen District of Columbia, 2009 was on hand to cheer for her sister.

Jennifer Phillips, Mrs. Virginia International, 2009 (L) and Joy Pfister, Mrs. Virginia International 2008 represented their state beautifully.

It was so wonderful to see my dear friend Adrienne Carver, Mrs. Maryland International 2009 again. We got to know each other at nationals last summer and have become great friends.

And the winners are: Angel McCoy (C), Mrs. Maryland International 2010 and Heather Thompson (L), Mrs. Virginia International 2010.

Solance Hair Studio Grand Opening

Brie Hawk invited me to attend the grand opening for her new salon, Solance Hair Studio. I had the privilege of meeting her when I competed for Mrs. Colorado International. She represented Westminster in the Miss division. It has been an honor to get to know her and I look forward to following her many successes in the years to come.

Miss Colorado High School America Pageant

I attended the Miss Colorado High School America Pageant. I sat with Joy who is Emily Schlehuber's Mom. Emily is our Miss Teen Colorado International 2009.

Congratulations to the newly crowned Miss Colorado High School America, Annika. She has a lot of preparation for Nationals to be held in Branson, MO in March. Good Luck!

After the pageant, I had the opportunity to catch up with Christine Warembourg, Mrs. Colorado International 2006 and Mrs. Colorado United States 2007. She is a wonderful sister queen, friend and also Emily's pageant coach.

Christine and I were so proud of Emily! She made top 10!

There was a large group of visiting queens. Many of these young ladies I have had the privilege of meeting and working with them and Chaplain Rourk. We have a wonderful network of queens all making a difference for Colorado.
